Do Good Awards Nomination

CIRCLE Alliance Bank’s nomination for the Alliance Bank Do Good Community Award (Sean & Genine) have reached the final six from a competitive field of 22. Read below their amazing work they do supporting the Homeless in the Melbourne region through their charity Anonymous X. 9040327636Sean Thornton is an exceptional Member.

In 2013 he felt so strongly about helping homeless people in Melbourne that he gave up his full time job to create a charity which provides substantial support to the homeless. Genine Thornton (Sean’s mum) has not only provided substantial financial support, but most weekends can be found with Sean on the streets of Melbourne helping the homeless. The commitment of Sean and Genine (both Circle members) is enormous and has changed the lives of many people. They have registered a charity called Anonymous X to continue and build on their work.

Anonymous X are a registered charitable organisation based out of Port Melbourne, which provides assistance for people experiencing homelessness in and around Melbourne, in addition to supporting those less fortunate via clothing, sanitary and essential items. It was established in 2013 when donations began pouring into a spare bedroom.  In early 2014, they began renting their first storage container. As the support from community grew, as did all the generous donations , so overwhelming in fact the space was quickly outgrown. In 2015 Anonymous X packed up and moved and began renting its first warehouse based in Oakleigh. 12 months on, Anonymous X continued to prosper and once again needed more space to store and distribute all the amazing donations coming in.

In 2016, Anonymous X made the decision to move closer to the CBD and buy their current warehouse located in Port Melbourne. The Anonymous X Team is a small group of devoted voluntary team leaders who in addition to managing both the administrative and warehouse needs, also offer practical and emotional support in a variety of different and unique ways. What differentiates Anonymous X from other grassroots organisations is maintaining relationships with people they meet on the streets, offering comfort and support doing their best to help. Their team not only support the people they aim to help most, but also encourage others to donate and volunteer by raising awareness of homelessness in Melbourne through their social media platforms and our 'X - Marks The Spot' fortnightly Friday night outreach assistance program.

This helps the Anonymous X team to engages with the broader public and encourages people to #makeadifference however possible. To find out more about Anonymous X and how you can donate your time, support items, or financially help the team visit
