Ten tips to keep your money safe online;
- Never share passwords and personal information.
- Anyone asking for a password is probably a scammer.
- Be a sceptic when reading email attachments, links and texts. When in doubt, delete.
- Scammers target everyone, and they sound genuine. They can also be very persistent.
- Use up-to-date anti-virus software to protect your computer and mobile devices
- Don’t send money or personal information to people from unusual locations.
- When paying large amounts of money to a third party, confirm bank details independently and don’t rely on any details sent by email as emails can be altered by scammers.
- Hang up on unsolicited phone calls where the caller pretends to be from the tax office or law enforcement agency and threatens you with legal action or arrest.
- Try not to answer calls from numbers you don’t recognise. If the call is important the caller will leave a message for you.
- Don’t open text messages with links from delivery companies when you know you haven’t ordered anything
